Heredity can play an important role in the development of certain cancers. CJWs genetics screening and counseling program can help determine if you and/or your family is at risk for a hereditary form of cancer. This information can be useful in making informed decisions about cancer prevention and treatment. The program offers a review of your family history, extensive education, genetic testing, counseling, and follow up.
Steps to the Genetic Testing Process
- Your physician contacts CJWs genetic educators to request their services.
- Meet with genetic educator to complete a risk assessment profile with family health history
- After assessment review, your educator discusses options and helps you decide whether to pursue genetic testing
- Schedule an appointment for a blood test should you decide to proceed
- When your genetic educator receives your test results, you meet to discuss and develop a plan for care & follow-up.
